Last updated October 12, 2026. Tracepaper is made by Sang Huynh Xuan, an independent developer.
The short version
No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your projects stay on your device. A photo leaves your device only when you tap Make stencil, and only to draw the lines.
Photos you turn into a stencil
When you tap Make stencil on a photo, Tracepaper sends that one photo over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to an image model provider that draws the line version and sends it back. We do not keep your photo or the result: they are deleted from our server as soon as the result is returned. The provider may hold requests for a short time to check for abuse under its own terms. Pictures you edit as your own line art never leave your device.
What our server stores
- A random device identifier created on your phone, so we can keep your credit balance.
- Your credit balance and the purchase receipts that added credits, so credits survive a reinstall on the same device.
- A count of how many stencils the device made today, to prevent abuse.
This is not linked to your name, email or any account. We do not sell it or share it for advertising.
Purchases
Credits are bought through Apple. Apple handles payment, and we receive no card or personal payment information.
On your device
Projects, photos and exports are saved in the app's own storage. Export files go only where you choose to save or share them. Saving to Photos asks for permission first.
Camera and photos
The camera and photo library are used only to pick a reference you chose.
Children
Tracepaper is not directed at children.
